tears along the folds do occur, even where the paper was noted as being in order, damaged here means glued or the fold torn right through, with the long-distance driver maps this applies from left to right, the 2nd and 3rd versions are slightly damaged.

on Esso maps in general: a product of the Esso oil company, from the Standard Oil Company empire, John Davison Rockefeller died at almost 98 in May 1937, as a Roggenfeller from German lands moved to Germantown/USA, his only son had 5 sons, David was still alive in 2014. In the period when motor traffic was beginning in Germany they were distributed as series road maps, see also the Shell map the BZ map the BV map the Continental map etc. all the well-known fuel and in part car suppliers began in part before the First World War and increasingly after it to get their road maps to the customer. The Esso maps were quite an extensive programme., there is a series of 30 plus Berlin, an old and a new version, then the Wegweiser, of which there was a censored post-war edition, in which the then unloved wordings in the inner part were partly overprinted and the note 1938 was put on the cover ! ( at least the most powerful clan in the western hemisphere was allowed to do that)  Then hiking tips and long-distance driver overview maps, slipcases for many things etc. After the war Esso also brought out something new for motorists again..... for historians, collectors and local history enthusiasts, railway enthusiasts, vintage car enthusiasts, the  maps of the series are interesting too, since the motorist was given plenty of further information with them.
